Alex Nikesch

Owner / Lead Designer

Alex is passionate about empowering people to grow their own food and designing resilient, abundant landscapes. While living abroad in Asia exploring sustainable ways of living, he discovered permaculture. He observed traditional rural farms and urban gardens across the continent while establishing his own gardens and food forests in the mountains of Fujian. Alex went on to train at the Permaculture Research Institute of Australia to receive his Permaculture Design Course (PDC) certificate, undertake advanced training in soil biology, and gain experience implementing multi-strata agroforestry systems in Central America.

Upon returning to the US, Alex co-founded the Southwest Florida Permaculture Guild, and he earned his designation as a Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Certified Professional (FFLCP). He currently teaches permaculture and forest gardening at Florida Gulf Coast University, advises schools and nonprofits, and helps clients transform their landscapes through his design and consultancy firm, Edulis Designs. He also stewards his own quarter-acre suburban homestead as a living example of high-yield regenerative design.
